We have already covered Phanek in the previous blog. But still, it’s never a bad idea to put an introduction in case you are not aware. It is a traditional garment worn by women in the Indian state of Manipur. Typically made of cotton or silk and is worn wrapped around the waist, with one end draped over the shoulder. Let’s go step by step to learn how to wear a Phanek. In case it is not enough we have added some videos at the end of this article to make wearing Phanek hassle-free.
- Start by draping the Phanek over your left shoulder, with the shorter end of the fabric hanging at your waist.
- Take the longer end of the fabric and wrap it around your waist, tucking it into the waistband at the back.
- The shorter end should now be at the front of your waist, and the longer end should be at your back.
- Adjust the fit of the Phanek by pulling the fabric tighter or loosening it as needed.
- The Phanek is typically worn with a blouse and a shawl, which can be added over the Phanek. The shawl is often draped over the left shoulder, covering the back and front of the body.
- The traditional way to tuck in the Phanek is to pass one end of the Phanek over the shoulder and tuck it behind the back at waist level.
- The other end of the Phanek is tucked in front at waist level. This way the Phanek is held firmly in position.
- You can also add traditional jewelry to complete the look.
